Military expert: Sanaa’s deterrence limits US options in Red Sea

SANAA, Sept. 15 (YPA) – A Military expert close to the Sanaa forces, Mujeeb Shamsan, said that US caution over the Red Sea is primarily driven by the deterrence equation imposed by the Sanaa forces on the ground, stressing that Washington’s strategies and those of its allies have failed to achieve their military objectives.

In remarks to Al Masirah TV, Shamsan said the US administration’s reluctance to launch new military operations was driven not simply by political considerations, but by the realities of two years of confrontation.

He added that US fleets and their allies had failed to change the balance of power or curb Yemen’s military capabilities.

Shamsan said the moves and changes witnessed in the region since 2022 were part of an alternative strategy adopted by Washington following Sanaa’s battlefield advances in Jawf, Marib and Bayda provinces.

The strategy included reshaping its tools and expanding the direct role of its allies in southern provinces, as well as providing logistical and other support to the opposing coalition.

Shamsan concluded that efforts to weaken the Yemeni front through economic pressure and a blockade had failed, adding that Sanaa had managed to thwart those plans and take the confrontation, including precision strikes, deep into the territory of its adversaries.
