DUBLIN, Sept. 13 (YPA) – Irish President Catherine Connolly told her US counterpart Donald Trump during their meeting on Saturday that “normalizing war and genocide is unacceptable under any circumstances.”
Connolly said the deep relationship between Ireland and the United States allows for frank discussion, emphasizing that the Irish people support those who build shared peace in areas suffering from war and horrific violence.
She added that Ireland, which suffered famine, colonialism, and violence during the Troubles, understands the importance of the long road to peace and has a unique perspective that it can offer to help resolve conflicts.
Connolly, a former independent left-wing MP, has criticized Trump, describing him as “unpredictable and acting like a bully” in the context of her comments on his actions in the Middle East.
