Protest held in South Korea in front of US Embassy against involvement in Iran war

SEOUL, Sept. 09 (YPA) – Dozens of people demonstrated on Wednesday in front of the US Embassy in Seoul, demanding that the government not send troops to the Strait of Hormuz and not participate in what they described as the “illegal war” waged by the United States against Iran.

The protesters held banners calling on South Korea not to join an “aggressive war,” coinciding with the government’s consideration of the possibility of sending troops to secure navigation in the strait under pressure from US President Donald Trump.

Seoul had announced the day before that it was sending a delegation to assess the situation in Hormuz, stressing that no decision had yet been made regarding military deployment.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei warned Seoul on Monday against succumbing to the US policy of “pressure and intimidation,” saying via the “X” platform that sending foreign troops to the Gulf under the pretext of protecting security constitutes direct support for the aggressor and will have serious consequences.

It is worth noting that any decision to send troops requires the approval of a majority of members of the South Korean National Assembly and cannot be made by a unilateral government.
