Turkish tanker sinks in Sea of ​​Marmara after colliding with oil tanker, 10 sailors missing

ISTANBUL, Sept. 02 (YPA) – Turkish authorities announced a collision between two Turkish-flagged merchant ships off the coast of Istanbul in the Sea of ​​Marmara.

The Istanbul governor’s office said that coast guard vessels and helicopters were dispatched to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations after contact was lost with 10 crew members of one of the ships.

Maritime authorities later clarified that the tanker “Tüceberk İmamoğlu,” which was loaded with steel, sank after colliding with an oil tanker. They indicated that there was no apparent damage to the other tanker so far.

The reasons for the collision are still unknown, although the Sea of ​​Marmara has witnessed similar incidents in recent years.
