Tehran designates US, Israeli-linked media as military targets

TEHRAN, Aug. 26 (YPA) – Iran’s armed forces have designated media outlets associated with the United States and “Israel” as military targets, state media reported, signaling a sharp escalation in regional tensions.

Brig. Gen. Sardar Shekarchi, spokesman for the Iranian Armed Forces, stated that hostile Israeli- and US-affiliated media operations are now considered part of the country’s target list. Speaking to Iran’s Mehr News Agency, Shekarchi said Tehran is confronting an “arrogant global media empire” backed by significant financial and technological resources.

Shekarchi explicitly accused networks including the BBC, Iran International, and Radio Farda of operating under the direction of US and Israeli intelligence services—allegations consistently denied by the broadcasters. He argued that these outlets operate as hostile assets rather than legitimate press organizations, warning that personnel could be targeted militarily as participants in adversary operations.

The spokesman criticized the outlets for inciting violence, asserting that media should support psychological security rather than disrupt it. He concluded by calling for expanded international outreach in multiple languages to counter media warfare and directly address global public opinion.
