Canada cancels visa of Jerusalem deputy mayor Aryeh King ahead of settlement fundraising event

OTTAWA, Aug. 26 (YPA) – The Canadian government on Wednesday canceled the visa of Jerusalem deputy mayor Aryeh King, days before his scheduled participation in a fundraising event in Canada for his settlement projects in the occupied city, according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

King is known for his extreme right-wing activism and his constant calls to seize Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem and expel UNRWA from the city, most recently calling for the evacuation of its headquarters in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood to establish a settlement.

King welcomed the occupation forces’ takeover of the UNRWA Qalandiya training center on Tuesday, writing on an X: “UNRWA out, mission accomplished.”

The Canadian decision comes amid escalating international anger against the occupation’s practices against Palestinians and the ongoing war on Gaza since October 2023.

It is noteworthy that Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem are considered illegal under international law, a position rejected by Israel.
