Hadramout tribes cut off oil pipelines in first field escalation against Riyadh

HADRAMOUT, Aug. 26 (YPA) – Hadramout tribes took their first escalatory steps against Saudi Arabia by blocking ‘PetroMasila’ oil tankers through newly established armed checkpoints along the ‘Al-Hadaba’ road in ‘Ghail Bin Yamin’ district.

The action comes in response to the continued detention of Sheikh Amr bin Habrish Al-Aliyi, head of the ‘Hadramout Tribal Alliance’, in Riyadh for the eighth consecutive month.

The move follows the detention of Bin Habrish and his companions at the Al-Wadeah border crossing by the Saudi “Special Committee,” which forced him to return to Riyadh and prevented his wife and children from departing via Jeddah Airport. The tribes pledged not to allow oil shipments to leave until Bin Habrish and his family safely return to Hadramout province.

The alliance leader—previously one of Riyadh’s key allies against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in Hadramout—has been placed under house arrest since being summoned in January.

Recently, Bin Habrish emerged as a prominent opponent of resuming oil exports from the Masila fields via the Al-Dhabah oil port without guaranteeing Hadramout residents their share of resource revenues and basic public services, including electricity, water, education, and healthcare.
