Marib’s Safer facility cuts domestic gas production by 6,000 barrels, worsening supply crisis in Aden, southern governorates

ADEN, Aug. 20 (YPA) – An official document issued by the Safer Company in Marib, controlled by the Islah Party, has revealed a reduction in domestic cooking gas production by 6,000 barrels per day—equivalent to approximately 20 tankers—due to the shutdown of the CPU-2 central processing unit.

The move threatens to escalate humanitarian hardship across Aden and other southern and eastern governorates under Saudi control.

The production cut coincided with an intensifying fuel shortage, as dispatched quantities dropped to 37 tankers last Tuesday.

Consequently, the price of a gas cylinder in Aden surged past 17,000 riyals, leaving hundreds of residents queuing in long lines and sleeping outside filling stations. Only four tankers are currently allocated daily to the city, while the company’s management has refrained from providing any explanations regarding the supply deficit.

Meanwhile, geological expert and natural resource development consultant Abdulghani Jaghman criticized the lack of a clear strategy to address the crisis.

Jaghman called for restructuring the domestic gas system to meet citizens’ basic needs before pursuing export plans via the Balhaf facility. He also urged facility executives to disclose technical and financial data, daily production figures, non-operational wells, losses, and leadership-allocated quotas.
