Iran, Oman reach agreement on Strait of Hormuz navigation route

TEHRAN, Aug. 15 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said on Saturday that Tehran and Muscat have reached an agreement on a navigation movement map for the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, Baghaei clarified talks between Iran and Oman are progressing steadily and positively despite U.S. obstruction, adding that the agreement resulted from coordination among Iran’s foreign, defense, security and environmental sectors.

The development comes as Iranian-Omani talks on navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz enter their final stages.

Previously, Araghchi said an agreement with Oman would not, by itself, mean the reopening of the strait.

Meanwhile, JPMorgan reportedly assessed that Iran and Oman’s proposed mandatory navigation safety fees could have a legal basis if they are charged for specific navigation and security services rather than simply for passage.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway through which ships must pass to enter or leave the Gulf via waters under Iranian or Omani sovereignty.
