Iran and Malaysia discuss strengthening defense and military cooperation

TEHRAN, Aug. 11 (YPA) – Iranian Acting Defense Minister Brigadier General Majid Ibn Reza and Malaysian Defense Minister Dato’ Sri Mohammed Khalid Nordin discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in defense, military, and security fields during a telephone call on Tuesday.

Both sides emphasized the importance of developing cooperation in training and the transfer of expertise and defense technology to serve common interests. Ibn Reza stressed Tehran’s readiness to share its defense capabilities with Malaysia and to leverage the two countries’ strategic location near the Straits of Hormuz and Malacca to enhance maritime security and safety.

The call also touched on regional developments, with the Iranian official affirming his country’s support for peace and stability in the region and the need to strengthen regional security mechanisms and reduce reliance on foreign forces and bases.

For his part, the Malaysian minister affirmed his country’s solidarity with Iran and Kuala Lumpur’s readiness to expand defense cooperation through dialogue, training, and technology exchange. He invited Iran to participate in the Malaysian Defense, Maritime, and Aerospace Exhibition scheduled for next year.

The two sides agreed to review and develop the framework for joint defense cooperation, and Ibn Reza extended an invitation to the Malaysian minister to visit Tehran to open a new phase of cooperation.
