16 Bangladeshi workers killed in Riyadh factory fire
RIYADH, Aug. 10 (YPA) – Sixteen Bangladeshi workers were killed and one survived after a fire broke out on Sunday at a sofa manufacturing plant in the Musa Industrial Area, under the jurisdiction of Al-Shifa Police Station in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Muhammad Rezai Rabbi, Labor Affairs Officer at the Bangladeshi Embassy in Riyadh, stated that 17 workers were inside the facility at the time of the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:00 PM. He explained that the sole survivor, Habib-ur-Rahman, was outside the premises when the fire erupted.
Initial assessments by Bangladeshi authorities and the embassy suggest an electrical short circuit was the cause of the fire, which resulted in the deaths of all 16 workers at the scene.
