Somali President: We will not allow any Israeli presence in “Somaliland”

MOGADISHU, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud affirmed that his government would use “strength and wisdom” to prevent Israel from establishing influence in “Somaliland,” emphasizing Mogadishu’s commitment to the unity and sovereignty of Somali territory.

He told the Federal Parliament that Somalia rejects the transfer of Middle Eastern conflicts to the Horn of Africa and is using diplomatic tools and international cooperation to protect its sovereignty and prevent any threat to stability.

He also affirmed that Somali forces possess sufficient capabilities to assume their security responsibilities amidst the debate surrounding the future of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), at a time when international support is declining.

It is worth noting that Israel announced its official recognition of “Somaliland” on December 26, 2025.
