Israeli occupation warns of rising maritime threats to Eilat, highlights Yemen concerns

QUDS, Aug. 02 (YPA) – The Israeli occupation’s Maariv newspaper has reported growing concerns over potential maritime threats targeting the southern city of Umm Al Rashrash, known as Eilat, and shipping in the Red Sea.

The remarks came amid persistent regional tensions and expanding risks from multiple fronts, particularly Yemen.

According to the report, the Israeli occupation forces have recently reinforced its naval presence around Eilat by deploying additional combat vessels, including missile boats and a submarine, as part of efforts to increase readiness against potential threats to maritime navigation and critical infrastructure.

The newspaper added that concerns extend beyond the Yemeni front, noting that the narrow geography of the Gulf of Eilat could enable rapid maritime attacks using small boats or unmanned platforms launched from the Sinai Peninsula, Jordan, or even Saudi territory.

It also cited assessments warning that Yemeni forces affiliated with Ansarullah movement could potentially reach areas near Israel’s borders through Saudi territory if the confrontation escalates.

Maariv further reported that the Israeli occupation has revised its defensive plans in recent months based on lessons learned from the October 7 attack, with a renewed focus on preventing hostile elements from reaching Israeli territory or carrying out surprise maritime operations.
