Islamic Jihad says Israeli escalation prevents progress to ceasefire’s second phase

GAZA, Aug. 1 (YPA) – The Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement said Saturday that Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip has continued in the hours following the announcement of a proposed framework for the agreement’s second phase.

In a statement, the movement stated that Israeli forces are continuing their military campaign against Palestinians in a “clear and overt escalation”, taking place in full view of all parties, including “the Peace Council and mediators.”

Islamic Jihad stated that Israel’s continued escalation and alleged ceasefire violations demonstrate the failure of current agreements to halt the ongoing war in Gaza.

The movement further noted that the ongoing escalation puts the responsibility on all parties involved, testing their resolve to ensure “Israel” abides by the initial phase of the deal.

It stressed that no transition to subsequent stages can occur until phase one is fully implemented—including a complete end to attacks, killings, destruction, and targeted assassinations.
