Armed attack targets pro-Saudi patrol in Aden, clashes expand in Inma city

ADEN, July 27 (YPA) – Unidentified armed individuals launched a surprise attack at dawn on Monday targeting a military patrol belonging to pro-Saudi factions in the Inma residential city in the Al-Buriqah area, central Aden in southern Yemen.

The attack was followed by armed clashes that expanded as military reinforcements were dispatched to the area.

Informed local sources reported that members affiliated with the so-called “Southern Resistance” are believed to have carried out the attack. Meanwhile, activists loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) stated that the clashes broke out following a verbal altercation between youth supporters of the council and recruits loyal to Riyadh over the removal of a portrait of Aidarous al-Zubaidi, which escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

For his part, the Media Director of Aden Security, Khaled Al-Sanami, confirmed that unidentified gunmen opened fire from an undisclosed location at the military patrol while it was returning from a security mission, without making reference to any casualties or material damage.

This development comes amid widespread popular escalation in Aden and other governorates since early July, aimed at limiting Saudi influence and dominance, as well as the systematic “war of services” implemented by the “Special Committee.”
