Iran detains 6 vessels for route violations in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, July 27 (YPA) – Iranian authorities announced they have detained six vessels in the Strait of Hormuz for violating established maritime navigation rules after attempting to use an alternative route outside a safe corridor designated by Tehran.

State media quoted an unidentified official as saying that Iranian forces intercepted the six ships overnight while they were attempting to transit the strait.

The official explained that the vessels turned off their navigation and communication systems and attempted to sail through an “illegal and unsafe” route in the southern part of the strait, rather than adhering to the maritime corridor specified by Iran.

Accusing the US military of inciting the attempt, the Iranian official stated that the ships’ attempt to cross through that route ended in failure.

According to Iranian authorities, one of the ships was involved in an incident during the transit attempt, while the other five were forced to turn back toward the Arabian Gulf following the intervention of Iranian forces.
