Senior Abyan tribal figure assassinated at Jawf Al-Rayyan camp

JAWF, July 19 (YPA) – Local sources familiar with the matter have reported that a prominent tribal figure from Abyan province was assassinated on Sunday by armed men affiliated with the Islah Party at Al-Rayyan camp in eastern Jawf province.

The sources said that Islah-affiliated gunmen reportedly carried out the killing of an Abyan tribal sheikh identified as Abdulqader Mohammed Nasser Al-Awadhli inside Al-Rayyan camp, without providing further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They added that the incident came after the collective withdrawal of several tribal groups — including Bakazem tribes from Abyan, Al-Subaiha and Radfan tribes from Lahj, and others — from the Islah-affiliated Al-Rayyan camp in recent days, in a move reflecting the growing divisions and tensions within the camp.

The reported assassination also follows an earlier incident in which Salafi sheikh Hussein Al-Salahi Al-Yafei survived an assassination attempt last Tuesday after being targeted in an armed ambush on the Al-Abr road in the Al-Khasha’a area. The attack reportedly resulted in the killing of his son Yasser and one of his escorts, identified as Ali Salim Al-Dhalei.

The attempted assassination of Al-Yafei came after he left Al-Rayyan camp following sharp criticism he had directed at Saudi-backed Islah Party leaders there.
