ADEN, July 17 (YPA) – A 5.3-magnitude offshore earthquake struck on Friday the Gulf of Aden, south of Yemen, the Dhamar Earthquake and Volcano Monitoring Center said.
According to the center’s daily seismic bulletin, the earthquake occurred at 3:01 p.m. local time along the Awen Fault in the Gulf of Aden.
The center said the quake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers and was located approximately 223 kilometers off the coast of Yemen’s Socotra Island.
It added that the offshore earthquake coincided with a series of 24 aftershocks detected by Yemeni monitoring stations in Ethiopia, with magnitudes ranging between 4.0 and 4.9 on the Richter scale.
