Military police personnel protest in Mahra over unpaid salaries

MAHRA, July 06 (YPA) – Dozens of Military Police personnel in the Saudi-controlled Mahra Governorate, in eastern Yemen, staged a protest on Monday in front of the financial affairs department building of the Ministry of Defense to demand the release of their salaries, which have been suspended for several months following the events of January.

Protesters raised banners demanding the immediate disbursement of their financial dues to alleviate the mounting economic and living burdens on their families. A statement issued by the protesters emphasized that they are officially registered with the Ministry of Defense and possess full financial and administrative accreditation.

The statement characterized the suspension of their salaries as an illegal measure and a form of collective punishment that violates both the constitution and military regulations.

The participants signaled plans for a progressive escalation in the coming period, which could culminate in an open-ended sit-in outside the Ministry of Defense headquarters if their demands continue to be unaddressed.
