Iran warns UK, France against military deployment in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, July 04 (YPA) – Iran has warned the United Kingdom and France against any military action in the Strait of Hormuz following reports of their readiness to support a multinational mission aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Saturday security in the strategic waterway should remain the responsibility of the countries bordering the Gulf, arguing that there is no need for military forces from outside the region.

He warned that any escalation or foreign military deployment in the strait would have what he described as “consequences,” characterizing Tehran’s message as a “serious warning.”
