ISLAMABAD, June 29 (YPA) – Pakistan has announced that its security forces conducted a ground operation and precision strikes based on intelligence along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 29 militants and targeting their hideouts.
In contrast, the Afghan government announced that dozens of civilian casualties fell as a result of the Pakistani airstrikes, which targeted Paktika, Paktia, and Konar provinces.
Taliban government spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, condemned the strikes, describing them as a “cowardly act of aggression.”
The operation came a day after an attack claimed by “Jamaat-ul-Ahrar” (a splinter faction of the Pakistani Taliban) targeting the regional headquarters of the paramilitary Rangers forces in the coastal city of Karachi. The attack resulted in the deaths of three Pakistani security personnel and three militants, and the arrest of a fourth wounded attacker, whom the Pakistani military identified as an Afghan national.
