SHABWA, June 29 (YPA) – The resignation of a senior security official in the Saudi-controlled oil-rich province of Shabwa has exposed the scale of the crisis affecting the security apparatus and the systematic chaos gripping the governorate.
“Khamees Hussein Mohammed Salem” announced his resignation from the leadership of the Saudi-funded Security Belt Forces affiliated with Shabwa Police, as well as from his position in what is known as the “Moral Police.”
In his resignation document, circulated on Sunday, Khamees stated that his decision was due to the absence of genuine will to support security work and a lack of accountability from the relevant authorities.
He added that he made the decision after exhausting all patience and attempts amid complete disregard for essential demands and the absence of basic requirements needed for Security Belt units to carry out their field duties.
The resignation comes at a time when districts in Shabwa are experiencing escalating security chaos due to ongoing power struggles between UAE-backed and Saudi-aligned factions since 2016, amid an almost complete absence of state authority in the province.
