UAE-backed STC cautions Riyadh against relying on military might in south Yemen

ADEN, June 22 (YPA) – The UAE-backed “dissolved” Southern Transitional Council (STC) issued a veiled warning to Saudi Arabia on Monday, urging Riyadh to draw lessons from contemporary history regarding its approach to southern Yemen.

Fadhl al-Jaadi, a prominent STC official, stated on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that security and military strategies anchored in the logic of brute force have historically failed to suppress popular will or extinguish what he termed the “just demands” of “the Southern Peaceful Movement.”

“Contemporary historical experiences have conclusively proven the failure of this option,” al-Jaadi said, emphasizing that the southern movement has long demonstrated resistance to coercive power. He added that collective awareness of their cause remains “stronger and more enduring than the newest and most destructive military arsenals.”

Al-Jaadi called on Saudi Arabia and its allied forces in Aden to analyze the current political landscape with greater depth. He urged them to internalize historical precedents and abandon what he described as “illusions of subjugating the STC’s constituents through military force.”

The remarks come amid simmering geopolitical tensions in southern Yemen, where the STC and the Saudi-led coalition maintain a complex and frequently strained security partnership.
