Washington cites “solid foundation” for Iran deal, unveils mechanisms for Lebanon de-escalation, Hormuz security

SWITZERLAND, June 22 (YPA) – US Vice President JD Vance announced on Monday that “very good progress” has been made in talks with Iran, expressing hope for a final agreement and a permanent settlement between the two sides.

Speaking at a press conference in Switzerland, Vance confirmed that a “solid foundation” has been established to pave the way for a successful deal, noting that technical talks will continue in the coming weeks.

Detailing the key issues on the table, Vance disclosed major understandings and frameworks, including:

  • The Nuclear File: Iran has agreed to allow International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors into the country, with discussions regarding inspection mechanisms expected to begin shortly.
  • The Strait of Hormuz: The two sides have reached a mechanism aimed at keeping the strait open and securing mine clearance operations.
  • The Lebanese File: Washington is operating through a de-confliction and escalation-containment mechanism in a bid to stabilize the ceasefire, with Vance emphasizing that diplomatic efforts on this track remain ongoing and subject to continuous review.
