Iran discloses details of war-ending understanding with US: Comprehensive guarantee for Lebanon’s security and independence
TEHRAN, June 15 (YPA) – Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the negotiating delegation, confirmed on Monday that the final drafting of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States to end the war on all fronts—including Lebanon—has been completed, consistent with developments over the past hours.
Baghaei emphasized that the MoU between Iran and the United States finalized the agreement to end the war, specifying that halting the war in Lebanon is an integral part of the understanding.
Comprehensive Guarantee for Lebanon’s Security and Regional Independence
Baghaei revealed that “Lebanon” was explicitly mentioned three times in the recent MoU, which “reflects the strategic position of this country in the settlement process.”
He added that the text explicitly states the “termination of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon,” and underscores “respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, national authority, and territorial integrity.”
Baghaei stressed that these explicit expressions demonstrate that no sustainable agreement can exist without a comprehensive guarantee for Lebanon’s security and regional independence.
The Aggression on the Beirut Suburb
Baghaei disclosed that concurrently with the concluding steps of the agreement, the occupation launched an attack on the southern suburb of Beirut (Dahiyeh). However, Iran did not allow this to distract its diplomatic focus.
He asserted that this crime ultimately transformed into an opportunity for greater cohesion and consolidation of this front.
He added that the future will demonstrate how this terrorist act against Lebanon was converted into an opportunity to maximize the interests of Iran, the Resistance Front, and Lebanon, noting that the crime has brought further harmony and strength to the Resistance Front.
The Fate of the Strait of Hormuz
Addressing several provisions under the understanding, Baghaei stated that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is of paramount importance to Iran, and that all measures taken over the past few months were fully compliant with international law.
He explained that, based on the MoU, Iran—in cooperation with Oman and in consultation with relevant stakeholders—will assume responsibility for ensuring the safety and secure transit of vessels in this strategic waterway.
Baghaei specified that these measures are being implemented in parallel with the obligations of the opposing party, fully safeguarding Iran’s sovereign standing.
He emphasized that Iran is not merely seeking to collect transit tolls, but rather “will design and collect fees related to maritime navigation services, environmental protection, and vessel security—services that are provided by Iran and Oman.”
Unfreezing Frozen Funds and Compensation for War Losses
Baghaei stressed that unfreezing Iran’s blocked assets and securing compensation for war losses represent two major economic priorities in this MoU, stating that “the United States is committed to executing them.”
He clarified that “the release of frozen funds is a legal and economic right for Iran, and it will resolutely pursue its claims for compensation regarding the losses of this war.”
Abolition of Nuclear Sanctions and Oil Sale Restrictions
Baghaei outlined that under the MoU, Washington is obligated to lift all primary and secondary sanctions, as well as resolutions issued by the UN Security Council and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He announced that the details of these nuclear and economic files will be finalized within 60 days of the agreement’s signing.
He added that immediately upon the signing of the MoU on Friday, June 19, all restrictions imposed on the sale of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and petrochemical products will be lifted.
Iran Monitors the Strict Implementation of International Obligations
In light of this, Baghaei asserted that this battle has clearly shown that those who initiated the aggression faced absolute failure and heavy losses, while the Iranian people proved they would spare no sacrifice or steadfastness to protect their dignity and independence.
He continued by stating that examining the reasons behind this retreat clearly demonstrates the power of deterrence possessed by Iran.
He emphasized that Iran is closely monitoring the strict execution of international obligations by the opposing parties, noting that “the malicious history of the United States is the primary driver of Iranian mistrust.”
Baghaei attributed this strategic and historic achievement to the legendary steadfastness and resistance of the Iranian people, as well as the national cohesion that provides a backbone for diplomacy, alongside the synergy between diplomacy and the battlefield.
Fruits of the Achieved Understanding
Baghaei described the breakthrough as the fruit of harmony, wisdom, and the unified, coordinated movement of all pillars of governance around the supreme interests of the state.
He expressed his gratitude to all segments of the Iranian populace, who “formed a solid rearguard for the defenders of the nation in both the military and diplomatic arenas,” renewing the pledge to the aspirations of the martyrs to continue the country’s path of development and power.
