Heatwave, power outages force families in Aden to seek refuge in shopping malls

ADEN, June 01 (YPA) – Distressing images circulating widely across social media platforms have sparked widespread public sympathy, shedding a stark light on the catastrophic collapse of the energy infrastructure in the coastal city of Aden, controlled by Saudi forces in southern Yemen.

The photographs depict local families, including women and young children, sprawling across the floors and corridors of a major commercial shopping center.

Local activists and residents confirmed that this influx into the shopping mall was driven neither by leisure nor consumer shopping. Instead, the air-conditioned complex has transformed into an involuntary sanctuary.

Displaced by the searing summer heatwaves, citizens are fleeing residential neighborhoods that have been plunged into prolonged, stifling blackouts, stripping households of basic ventilation and cooling systems amidst soaring tropical temperatures.
