Scabies outbreaks in Israeli occupation prisons amid deterioration of prisoners’ health conditions

GAZA, May 24 (YPA) – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club revealed on Sunday a widespread and dangerous outbreak of scabies inside Israeli occupation prisons (particularly “Ofer”, “Megiddo”, “Negev”, and “Gannot”).

The Club confirmed that dozens of prisoners are enduring harsh health and humanitarian conditions due to the absence of medical care and the continuation of poor detention conditions.

Based on visits conducted by its lawyers during April and May 2026, the Club explained that overcrowded cells have turned into infested environments where boils and acute infections are spreading. This has deprived prisoners of sleep, and left some unable to move normally due to repeated infections or lingering illness for months without actual treatment.

The Prisoners’ Club accused the occupation authorities of using medical negligence and diseases as a tool for “slow killing” against the prisoners, calling on the World Health Organization and international institutions to intervene urgently to stop these “medical crimes.”
