Tasnim reveals outline of potential Iran-US draft agreement, conditioning Strait of Hormuz status on sanctions relief
TEHRAN, May 24 (YPA) – Iran’s Tasnim News Agency has disclosed the parameters of a potential preliminary understanding with the United States, emphasizing that any restoration of the pre-war status quo in the Strait of Hormuz is strictly conditional upon the total lifting of the US naval blockade and Washington’s fulfillment of its commitments within a 30-day window.
According to the agency, the draft memorandum outlines several key pillars:
- The Nuclear Track: A 60-day window has been designated for nuclear negotiations, which have been deferred until after the war. Tehran firmly rejected rumors that it has agreed to any immediate nuclear concessions, denying claims that it committed to exporting nuclear materials or suspending its atomic activities at this stage.
- Economic Safeguards: Washington will reportedly commit to suspending oil sanctions, granting Iran unrestricted export waivers for the duration of the 60-day nuclear talks. Crucially, Tehran has conditioned the preliminary understanding on the immediate release of a baseline portion of its frozen assets, successfully rejecting a US push to tie the unfreezing of those funds to a finalized nuclear accord.
- Regional Fronts: If ratified, the memorandum would declare an end to hostilities across all regional theaters. This includes mandating that “Israel” halt its war on Lebanon, and signaling a comprehensive cessation of hostilities between the US and its allies against Iran and its allies. In return, Washington would be obligated to withdraw its combat forces from Iran’s immediate regional periphery.
