“Damon”.. A prison transformed into a theater of systematic humiliation for Palestinian female prisoners

OCCUPIED QUDS, May 23 (YPA) – The Asra Media Office (Prisoners Media Office) revealed on Saturday a dangerous escalation in the violations faced by Palestinian female prisoners inside Damon Prison.

It confirmed that suppression forces belonging to the Israeli occupation prison administration carried out more than 30 raids and suppression operations over the past three months, amid deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions.

The office explained, in a statement, that the female prisoners face harsh conditions inside the detention center, including poor food quality, high humidity levels, and a shortage of basic hygiene supplies. This is in addition to being subjected to verbal harassment and humiliating searches inside the bathrooms in the presence of soldiers standing at the doors, in a flagrant violation of privacy and human dignity.

The statement pointed out that the prison administration keeps surveillance cameras operating constantly, forcing the female prisoners to sleep in their hijabs (headscarves) for fear of their privacy being violated. Meanwhile, pregnant and sick female prisoners suffer from deliberate medical neglect and the refusal to conduct necessary medical examinations and treatments for them.

It added that on May 13, Israeli suppression forces stormed the female prisoners’ sections inside the prison and took them out to the yard while handcuffed, amid continuous physical assaults and insults.

In the same context, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club had confirmed earlier this month that the occupation forces carried out, during last March and April, at least 10 suppression operations inside the same prison, based on testimonies from recently released female prisoners.
