Official targeted in Taiz, rights activist’s home attacked in Hays amid escalating security chaos

PROVINCES, May 13 (YPA) – Areas under the control of factions loyal to Saudi Arabia have witnessed a surge in security instability, marked by armed attacks targeting local officials in the cities of Taiz and Hays.

In Taiz, “Adel Mohammed Oufan,” the so-called “Director of Technical Affairs at the Public Works Office” in Al-Qahirah district, narrowly survived an assassination attempt this Wednesday. The attack occurred when gunmen opened fire on him while he was carrying out his field duties to remove a “newly constructed unauthorized room” on a public street in the city center.

In a related development, the home of “Ghalib Al-Qudaimi,” the so-called “Deputy Director of the Human Rights Office” loyal to Saudi Arabia, was targeted in the city of Hays of Hodeida governorate by unknown gunmen on Tuesday evening. The attackers directly targeted the house with gunfire, causing panic among his family members and residents, though no human casualties were reported.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted between the “Khabar Laqamoush” tribes in Habban district, Shabwa governorate, on Tuesday evening. Factions loyal to Saudi Arabia have been accused of fueling the conflict among the tribes to serve their interests in the oil-rich governorate, as they failed to take any action to contain the unrest.

These incidents highlight the security vacuum prevailing in areas under the influence of Saudi-funded factions, following the absence of state authorities in these regions since the military withdrawal in early 2016.
