TEHRAN, May 13 (YPA) – Spokesman for the Iranian Army, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akrami Nia, stated that Iran would not allow any country to transport American weapons through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Tasnim News Agency, Akram Nia made the remarks on Wednesday during a ceremony marking the 40th day since the death of Lieutenant General Abdolrahim Mousavi, held at the Goharshad Mosque within the Imam Reza shrine complex.
Speaking about the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, Akram Nia said the vital waterway is currently under the full strategic oversight of the Iranian armed forces.
He explained that the western side of the strait is monitored by the navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while the eastern sector falls under the control of the Iranian Army Navy.
He said the coordinated military presence enhances Iran’s sovereignty and influence in the region and could generate significant economic benefits for the country.
Akram Nia also declared that Iran would no longer permit the passage of American weapons through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that many U.S. weapons previously stationed at regional military bases had already been destroyed.
He further stated that Tehran would not continue to accept sanctions and external pressure imposed against the country.
