Sanaa renews warning to Saudi Arabia over Yemen’s sovereign wealth

SANAA, May 09 (YPA) – Speaker of Sanaa-based Yemen’s parliament, Yahya Al-Rai, renewed warnings to Saudi Arabia, coalition countries, and their allied factions against taking measures that undermine Yemen’s sovereignty or target the country’s resources and national capabilities.

During a joint parliamentary meeting on Saturday involving the Development and Oil Committee and government representatives, Al-Rai criticized the recently announced memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Geological Survey and the Saudi-backed Aden government, describing it as invalid and illegal.

He argued that the agreement falsely assumes the authority of Yemen’s official Geological Survey based in Sanaa and poses risks to the country’s sovereign wealth and economic security.

Al-Rai called on relevant authorities to take deterrent measures against what he described as the impersonation of official institutions, stressing the need to confront foreign interference and attempts by Saudi-led coalition countries to impose control over Yemeni sovereignty.

He also emphasized the importance of establishing legal frameworks to regulate geological and mineral data and protect Yemen’s oil and mineral wealth from exploitation or manipulation.

For his part, deputy parliament speaker Abdul Rahman Al-Jamei urged greater transparency regarding agreements and deals concluded by the Aden government, whether publicly disclosed or not.

He also called on the ministry of oil and minerals to intensify media efforts to raise public awareness about what he described as the risks of such agreements and their impact on national sovereignty.

Meanwhile, deputy minister of oil and minerals stressed the need for coordinated efforts to confront schemes targeting Yemen’s natural resources and to prevent the plundering of the country’s oil and mineral wealth.
