Pezeshkian: Key details of Iran-US understanding remain secret

TEHRAN, Aug. 08 (YPA) – Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said some details of the arrangements linked to a memorandum of understanding with the United States remain confidential, while the agreement was signed at the presidential level to provide greater political credibility and guarantees.

In a statement, Pezeshkian said the understanding covers issues including the easing of sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian funds, and arrangements for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

He maintained that Iran made no concessions on its rights and rejected claims that the memorandum represented a defeat for Tehran.

He said Iran does not seek war or territorial expansion but will not accept coercion or surrender, while emphasizing that Tehran remains open to negotiations that guarantee its rights.

Pezeshkian also said Iran is working to prevent the United States and Israeli enemy from uniting Gulf states against Tehran, stressing the importance of regional cooperation and respect for national sovereignty.

Regarding negotiations with European countries, he said Tehran had reached an understanding with French President Emmanuel Macron, but European states ultimately rejected it and moved toward activating the snapback mechanism.

The Iranian president denied divisions between the government, military and diplomatic establishment over the war and negotiations, saying decisions were coordinated through the Supreme National Security Council.
