Document accuses Al-Barakani’s son of inciting protests, unrest

TAIZ, May 07 (YPA) – A document was issued on Thursday by the Taiz police leadership, affiliated with the Islah Party, accused Suhaib Sultan al-Barakani—the son of senior General People’s Congress leader Sultan al-Barakani, backed by Riyadh—of inciting public unrest and encouraging protests against authorities aligned with the party.

According to the document, obtained by Yemen Press Agency, Suhaib al-Barakani, who reportedly holds the rank of captain, was warned that his actions violate regulations and could expose him to legal measures and referral to a disciplinary council if such activities continue.

In recent months, activists have accused al-Barakani’s son, who recently returned from Cairo, of fueling tensions in Taiz in an attempt to create chaos that could facilitate the expansion of forces loyal to Tariq Saleh, nephew of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, into rural districts of the Taiz province, particularly Al-Shamayatayn city. The accusations also referenced efforts to exploit sensitive incidents, including the assassination of Taiz Cleaning Fund Director Iftikhar al-Mashhari last September.

For his part, Suhaib al-Barakani dismissed the accusations as baseless, criticizing what he described as the conduct of the Taiz police leadership. In a post circulated on social media, he said his activities in Taiz were limited to humanitarian and social efforts aimed at addressing citizens’ concerns.

He also accused Taiz Police’s director Mansour al-Akhali of failing to pursue perpetrators involved in assassinations, home raids, and other security violations, claiming several cases remain unresolved under his administration.
