Iranian source: Two US-flagged ships stranded in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN, May 04 (YPA) – Two commercial vessels flying the U.S. flag are currently stranded in the southern sector of the Strait of Hormuz, near the coast of the Oman, and are unable to either proceed or return.

According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, the vessels are located in waters described as rocky and shallow, conditions that complicate navigation and increase the risk of maritime movement.

The source added that the geographical characteristics of the southern coastline—particularly near the Musandam Peninsula—make it unsuitable as a safe shipping route due to the prevalence of submerged rocks and limited depth.

Meanwhile, the United States Central Command had earlier announced that two U.S. merchant ships had successfully transited the Strait. This claim was later rejected by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which denied that any such passage had taken place.

Separately, the source referenced a recent escalation, stating that the United States and Israeli entity launched a military campaign against Iran on February 28 that lasted 40 days and resulted in significant civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
