Iran clarifies nature of Hormuz understanding with Oman

TEHRAN, Aug. 06 (YPA) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has stated that the understanding reached with the Sultanate of Oman does not equate to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that any decisions regarding the strait remain subject to specific requirements and procedures.

In a statement delivered on Wednesday, Gharibabadi asserted that any agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz must remain strictly bilateral between Iran and Oman. He firmly rejected foreign intervention in the management of its affairs, adding that Tehran will not accept an external role in the strategic waterway under any circumstances.

Gharibabadi noted that upon implementation of the new agreement, current temporary routes through the Strait of Hormuz will be closed, with a significant portion of inbound and outbound vessel traffic designated to pass through Iranian territorial waters.

In a separate context, the Deputy Foreign Minister revealed that the United States sent a message four to five days after the onset of the latest round of confrontations, requesting negotiations to resolve outstanding issues.
