WASHINGTON, April 30 (YAP) – The United States announced on Thursday the redeployment of its largest aircraft carrier away from the Red Sea, amid renewed regional tensions and threats affecting maritime routes near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
According to The Washington Post, citing U.S. defense sources, the USS Gerald R. Ford was officially preparing to return to Virginia after recent deployments in the region.
The carrier had been positioned near the Red Sea in recent days, shortly after being reassigned from other operational duties.
Meanwhile, analysts linked the timing of the move to growing U.S. concerns over a possible escalation involving Yemen and increasing risks to naval traffic in surrounding waters.
Furthermore, the redeployment comes as Washington seeks to avoid broader maritime confrontations following months of heightened tensions in the region, including attacks targeting commercial and military vessels.
The latest move reflects continuing U.S. efforts to recalibrate its naval posture in response to evolving security developments across the Red Sea and nearby strategic corridors.
