Prisoners Affairs Authority warns of deteriorating conditions for Palestinian detainees
QUDS, April 19 (YPA) – Former head of the Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Authority, Qadura Fares, warned on Saturday of extremely dangerous conditions faced by Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, saying they are subjected to a “slow mass execution” amid the absence of effective international intervention.
In remarks to a Palestinian news agency, Fares said prisoners are surrounded by risks “on all sides,” accusing Israeli occupation’s military, security, and political institutions of systematic violations, while international laws are being ignored.
He added that the situation has worsened under the current Israeli leadership, pointing to the role of hardline figures such as Itamar Ben-Gvir in intensifying repressive measures, including what he described as policies amounting to systematic killing.
Fares called for sustained popular mobilization and intensified diplomatic efforts to spotlight the issue, alongside launching legal action at the international level to hold the occupation accountable and ensure protection and humane conditions for prisoners. He stressed that securing prisoners’ rights and freedom remains a national priority, urging stronger global pressure to halt ongoing violations.
