Iranian Navy: ‘Any US violation of agreement to meet with appropriate response’
TEHRAN, April 19 (YPA) – The naval command of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned on Saturday that any US violation of existing understandings would be met with a “proportionate response,” stressing that continued threats to maritime traffic could impact navigation conditions in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the command said it had introduced a “new regime” governing ship transit through the strait, under which civilian vessels must adhere to routes designated by Iran, while military vessel passage remains prohibited.
It added that all navigation would be subject to the oversight of the IRGC Navy, describing the measures as part of arrangements linked to the current de-escalation phase and the implementation of the Lebanon ceasefire.
