ADEN, April 17 (YPA) – The Saudi-backed Aden government announced on Friday an increase in the prices of gasoline and diesel, following an artificial crisis that occurred over the past week in Aden and other southern and eastern provinces of Yemen.
According to the government-run oil company, the price of gasoline and diesel has been set at 1,475 riyals per liter, raising the cost of a 20-liter container to 29,500 riyals , which equals $123.61, for both fuels.
The move came amid mounting public pressure for solutions to the worsening economic situation, with criticism directed at the government led by Shaya al-Zindani over deteriorating living conditions and declining basic services, particularly electricity.
The price hike has sparked widespread anger, especially as salary payments have been disrupted for four consecutive months.
Analysts warned the increase could drive up the cost of goods and services, deepening the humanitarian crisis faced by the population.
