Crippling service crisis hits Aden: looming fuel price hike, widespread blackouts
ADEN, April 15 (YPA) – The city of Aden and the areas under Saudi-backed government control are facing an unprecedented collapse in living standards and services, amid a severe fuel crisis and power outages that have reached 16 hours a day, coinciding with the arrival of summer.
The price of a gallon of diesel jumped to 35,000 riyals amid a severe shortage, amid news of a government move to impose a new price “dose,” which led to a revival of the black market and long queues in front of stations.
The city was plunged into complete darkness due to the depletion of fuel at the stations and the deterioration of the public network, with the absence of strategic solutions and the reliance on “patchwork” repairs.
The crisis spread from Aden to include Taiz and Hadramout, sparking accusations of deliberate manipulation of the oil derivatives file.
These conditions signal a looming wave of inflation across the transport and production sectors, doubling the economic burden on citizens and pushing the public service infrastructure to the brink of total collapse.
