ADEN, March 29 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) on Sunday called on residents of the southern governorates to stage mass protests in Aden this coming Wednesday, condemning what it described as “policies of repression and restriction” and the closure of its offices for the second consecutive month.
In an official statement, the council stated it had exhausted all channels and communications to understand the reasons behind the closures, which it labeled a “dangerous measure.”
The STC claimed its efforts were met with a “collective evasion of responsibility,” noting that various parties denied issuing the closure orders while shifting the blame onto Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council.
According to the statement, the peaceful rally is scheduled for Wednesday in front of the National Assembly building in the Tawahi district of Aden.
The STC demands the unconditional reopening of its offices and the restoration of its members’ rights to engage in peaceful political expression.
The statement held Saudi-aligned southern political and military leaders fully responsible for any fallout or public unrest stemming from this escalation.
The council commended the headquarters’ security guards who refused to use force against protesters, despite consequently facing suspension or dismissal.
