MOSCOW, March 20 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova announced that Russia will take “compensatory measures” and countermeasures to maintain its defense readiness if Japan proceeds with the purchase of American “Tomahawk” missiles.
Zakharova explained that Tokyo’s pursuit of offensive systems represents a step towards “remilitarizing the country” and a direct threat to the national security of neighboring countries, warning that this path undermines regional stability and pushes towards a new arms race in the Asia-Pacific region.
The spokeswoman concluded her remarks by calling on the Japanese leadership to “learn the lessons of history” to avoid a repeat of World War scenarios, stressing that Moscow regularly informs the Japanese side of the repercussions of this accelerating military escalation.
