ABYAN, March 17 (YPA) – Armed militants loyal to the “Southern Resistance” blocked the international highway linking Aden and Hadramout governments in the Ahwar district of Abyan governorate on Monday.
The move comes as a protest against the closure of Southern Transitional Council (STC) offices and the restrictions placed on its activities in Aden.
The armed blockade at the Al-Mukhashaf and Al-Mahsama areas has halted trucks and tankers, completely disrupting traffic on the international route leading to the Sultanate of Oman.
Protesters have granted the Saudi-backed government 48 hours to rescind its decisions and reopen the STC’s “sovereign” headquarters.
A statement issued by the group warned of “harsher” escalatory measures if their demands are ignored, describing the government’s recent actions as an attempt to stifle political work and bypass the “Southern Cause.”
