Iran destroys US “THAAD” missile defense system

WASHINGTON, March 07 (YPA) – Recent satellite imagery reported by the American network CNN has revealed that radar sites belonging to the US “THAAD” missile defense system were targeted in strikes across Jordan and the UAE.

These attacks come within the context of Iranian military escalation in response to American and “Israeli” strikes.

Analyses showed the near-total destruction of the radar system for the THAAD battery at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, following a strike by an Iranian-backed drone on March 1, 2026.

Imagery also detected strikes on sites housing similar radar systems in vital facilities in Rowais and Sadr (UAE), in addition to smoke rising from a complex near Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

Images showed 13-foot-deep craters, leading to the destruction of the core components of the 5-trailer system. Researchers noted damage to a US-made early warning radar system at the Umm Dahal site in Qatar.

Experts confirmed that the loss of the AN/TPY-2 radar, costing approximately half a billion dollars, represents a major operational blow, as it serves as the “operational heart” of the battery; without it, interceptor missiles cannot be launched.

In a related context, a US official confirmed to the “Wall Street Journal” that the United States is currently rushing to replace the damaged radar in Jordan, amidst ongoing military tensions that have impacted air bases housing dozens of American fighter jets and drones in the region.
