OCCUPIED QUDS, March 01 (YPA) – Israeli forces implemented a stringent military closure on Al-Aqsa Mosque and the surrounding Old City of Quds (Jerusalem) on Saturday, leaving the mosque’s courtyards empty of worshipers on the 11th day of Ramadan.
Israeli occupation forces reportedly compelled worshipers to evacuate the courtyards in the early morning hours, completely closing the gates and deploying intensive checkpoints that prevented citizens from gaining access.
Quds neighborhoods witnessed a heavy security presence, involving rigorous searches and ID inspections, alongside the ongoing entry ban affecting thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank.
These measures coincide with heightened regional tensions and come just one day after approximately 100,000 worshipers performed the second Friday prayer of Ramadan despite existing restrictions.
The recent closure has raised concerns regarding the continued limitation of freedom of worship for the remainder of the holy month, particularly amid a volatile political climate impacting the Holy City.
