UN delegation visits Kobani to assess humanitarian situation amid field complications

KOBANI – SYRIA,  Feb. 16 (YPA) – A delegation from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) visited the city of Kobani in northern Syria to conduct a field assessment of the deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions resulting from the blockade imposed on the region since January 20th.

The delegation held talks with the Autonomous Administration to discuss mechanisms for securing essential services in the energy, water, agriculture, and bakery sectors.

The UN team inspected displacement centers within the city to evaluate the living conditions and urgent needs of displaced populations.

The visit aimed to strengthen international coordination and ensure the continuity of vital services amid current economic and living pressures.

In parallel with humanitarian efforts, field sources reported obstacles in implementing security agreements in the city’s countryside.

The “Al-Hamzat” and “Al-Amshat” factions, affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government, have reportedly refused to withdraw from positions in Jalabiyya and Kharab Ashak. This refusal persists despite a prior agreement to hand over these points to the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), further complicating the humanitarian and security landscape in the region.
