WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 (YPA) – US Senator Ruben Gallego sharply criticized President Donald Trump on Sunday over his administration’s military campaign against Iran, asserting a lack of clear rationale for launching the conflict or a defined exit strategy, while warning that it risks becoming another 20-year war.
Speaking to ABC News, the Democratic senator said the Trump administration’s handling of mental health concerns among crew members aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln reflects a disregard for service members, treating them as “disposable” rather than individuals with families. Gallego noted that neglecting psychological well-being erodes troop morale and risks driving experienced personnel out of the service, adding that Navy leadership has failed to adequately address these issues.
Gallego also rejected the administration’s request for $17 billion to sustain what he characterized as an “illegal” war, maintaining that government officials have consistently lacked a coherent strategy to manage escalation or bring the conflict to an end.
