ABU DhABI, Feb. 12 (YPA) – In an unprecedented escalation highlighting the depth of divisions within the coalition, Abu Dhabi launched a sharp attack on Riyadh, openly accusing it of systematically looting Yemen’s oil wealth in the southern regions and issuing direct threats to push it out of the country.
The attack came in strongly worded remarks by Dubai’s Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security, Dhahi Khalfan.
In posts on the platform X that drew attention in political circles, he asserted that the alleged plundering of Yemeni oil by Saudi Arabia is no longer merely an accusation but “a reality.”
Dhahi Khalfan pointed to what he described as the depletion of southern oil fields under the cover of military operations.
The Emirati official went beyond raising the issue of oil, explicitly threatening to end the Saudi presence in Aden city, south of Yemen, and other strategic areas.
Observers say the remarks signal that the struggle for influence and resources between the two leading members of the coalition has reached a critical stage.
They argue that the UAE appears to be using the issue of “looted wealth” to stir public sentiment and mobilize local forces against the Saudi presence—raising the prospect of a new round of confrontation that could reshape the balance of power in the southern provinces of Yemen.
