Dispute erupts in Chile over Gaza anatomy of genocide exhibition

SANTIAGO, Aug. 12 (YPA) – A diplomatic dispute has erupted in Chile after Israeli occupation’s Ambassador Peleg Levy objected to a photography exhibition titled “Anatomy of a Genocide” by Palestinian photographer Bilal Khaled at the Municipal Theatre in Viña del Mar.

Levy criticized the exhibition in a post on X, accusing the municipality of using public funds to promote divisive political rhetoric and hatred.

The Palestinian Information Center, which organized the exhibition, rejected the allegation, saying the municipality only provided the venue while the center covered the event’s full costs.

The Palestinian community in Chile accused the ambassador of interfering in Chile’s internal affairs and violating the principle of non-intervention under Article 41 of the Vienna Convention. It urged Chile’s Foreign Ministry to take a firm stance against what it called repeated Israeli interference.

The Chilean-Palestinian Friendship Group in the Senate also expressed concern, describing the ambassador’s public objections as disrespectful to Chilean sovereignty and calling on the Foreign Ministry to take appropriate diplomatic measures.

The exhibition documents destruction and daily life in Gaza during the first 200 days of the war and will remain open until September 6. Chile is home to one of the largest Palestinian communities outside the Arab world, estimated at around 500,000 people.
